06.05.11 Just for the record lighting flashes behind my house on the eve of the charter with a 2 hour thunder storm, it was not enough rain to dampen the ground for steam runs. it also raining at the station before departure.

07.05 11    Class 5 45231 Sherwood Forester at Carlisle power box, the loco came over Shap from Carnforth enroute to Scotland for day 3 of the Cathedrals Explorer. She suffered hot box and had to travel 5 mph from Plumpton to Carlisle holding up the morning northbound services. A temporary repair was been made,

By David Wilson

I was told she would have to return to Carnforth, some bad luck for the charter punters, re the drought which should be over by now in light of last nights rain.
