LOW ROW SIGNAL BOX

03.04.09 Low Row signal box is being decommissioned/demolished tonight! The road is closed for two weeks and the space occupied by the box is needed for the
Automatic barrier equipment and protecting CCTV. The new box which is very
spacious and features for the first time an inside toilet.

Of the  three operating panels fitted
only the middle one shows Milton village at one end and Long Byre crossing at the other.

There is space on the panel to connect with Carlisle on the right panel and Hexham on the left so presumably that is the ultimate plan.

I believe that Milton box will be gone within fourweeks and that Brampton Fell and Haltwhistle boxes will be adjacent boxes.
(for the moment).

In 1986 the Settle to Carlisle line was to close. A petition of  two hundred thousand  signatures & a dogs paw print was handed into the then Conservative government.

After three years of campaigning the line was saved on the 10th April 1989.

Ruswarp's paw print became very famous, after all he was a paying passenger. Today after another campaign a statue sits on a plinth at Garsdale station which had a make over in 2008.

Dogs now travel free on the Uk trains, but you can get a ROVER ticket.

Dogs were very welcome at the station, so come on lets get on with it, lets see if Ruswarp is has good looking as me. the dog that is.

The unveiling takes place by Olive Clark who was chairwoman of the enquiry, & Ron Cotton whose job it was to see the line closed 1986 to 1989.
