THE WAVERLEY REMEMBERED

 

 

Having found my old negs from the late 50s to the 70s I am just in-time to show myself with John Carruthers left who I met on the Flying Scotsman rail tour from Edinburgh to Aberdeen 16th May 1964 .

Sat 26th September 1964 A4 60007 is to re-leave 46256 Sir William Stainer at Carlisle before taking the charter to Edinburgh via the Waverley Route. Stanier was scrapped & Sir Nigel was preserved.

WIGAN MODEL RAIL SHOW

 

 

0 Gauge A4 Kingfisher in Garter Blue with the early No 24 which became 60024 under the 1948 nationalization of British Railways.

 

This narrow gauge 009 layout was one of the best in the show.

Carlisle preserved A3 No 4472 arrives off the Waverley Route.

 

 

Langholm Station just after closure to passengers 15th June 1964. The line closed to freight March 1967.

0-6-0 saddle tank Hunslet engine C/o Ltd Leeds, works No 3155 built 1944.

 

 

Rescued by the late Peter Beet, now owned by his wife, 46441 was based at Carnforth from 1970 & has been seen working at Bury Lancs railway.

A2 Blue Peter a former Waverley loco is seen at Kingmoor in April 1966, now preserved. The Canal shed supported the Waverley locos and was closed in June 1963.

PRESTON MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION

A Route master London Bus in Preston, It was used as a shuttle between Preston Dock Railway & the Exhibition.

 

 

An old friend has been found J.N Derbyshire worked at British Gypsum Cocklakes Nr Carlisle  in the 1960s. Built in 1929, works No 1969 by Andrew Barclay & Sons Ltd at the Caledonian works Kilmarnock Scotland. B/W picture below.
